Post surgery care: Most likely this is within the normal parameters for post surgical care, however okay to check in with your surgery team about this. A cold limb after surgery on the limb should be reported to your team. Be well.

Go see a doctor: Pain that radiates from hip 2 toes is usually caused by a pathology above the hip. Your patella (knee cap) fracture, most likely, has nothing to do with this pain. Your back is a likely candidate, but   your history of heart disease and the fact that your foot turns cold, makes me think of a vascular (arterial) cause for your pain.  I would definitely recommend you see a doctor to begin a workup.

You probably have some degree of arthritis. Inflammation in the joints is sensitive to changes in pressure, as happens when the temperature changes. Consult your doctor. They may recommend an anti-inflammatory to make your symptoms better. Hope this helps!

Poor circulation?: It may be poor circulation, because the blood vessels are not carrying enough blood to warm the legs is a possibility. It is quite often seen with people that have predisposition and smoke, have diabetes. You may want to see a doctor to measure the pressure gradient in the blood vessels and they may be able to help with medications that would improve blood circulations.

Determine pain cause: Do you have arthritis? Is this tendonitis? Is there swelling of the knee? Could you have a meniscal tear? To effectively treat pain, you have to determine the cause, if possible. For now, rest from offending activities, ice for 20 minutes at a time, take OTC ibuprofen in only the recommended amt. and consider a brace. Circulation: You should have a venous and arterial study of your leg. Circulation problems can be venous or arterial in origin. Go to www.Phlebology.Org and put in your zip code. Find a vein specialist in your area to get a venous doppler duplex exam and go to your family practice doctor and have him check your pulses in your leg.

Theoretically: It is thought that changes in pressure with weather fronts can cause pain in joints. The changes in pressure result in slight changes in the joint resulting in pressure on the lining which results in pain. This is common in folks with arthritis and chronic swelling.

Pain and swelling: This could be an arthritic condition (given the swelling in the knees), could also be CRPS (Reflex sympathetic dystrophy), could also be a neuropathy that is painfull - would need a lot more information to evaluate further.
