the tip of my right index finger has been feeling very cold lately. it's really annoying. is there anything i can do about it?should i get it checked?

Possibly raynauds: Raynauds disease  arterial spasm that affects fingers and toes. Affected areas often turn blue, feel cold and numb, and sense of touch is dulled. As circulation improves, the affected areas may turn red, throb, tingle or swell. Sometimes can affect one digit, not always same digit. Idiopathic raynauds is nuisance but not usually health issue unless secondary to connective tissue disorder.

Vasomotor: Sounds more vascular than neurological.  A primary medical doctor can order an ultrasound & vascular studies of your arm.  Carpal tunnel would not present this way.  Rare possibilities are burger's and reynauds, and you might see a rheumatologist to rule these out. Thoracic outlet syndrome could cause these symptoms, but you would also have an aching shoulder discomfort, which you do not mention.

Frost nip: This is a common condition called frost nip and I would expect the feeling to come back in the next 24 hours.

Could happen if : Something like that happens if you got an infection and the digit swelled and then was so swollen cut off the circulation.......The description sounds serious enough to be checked out asap. If that means an emergency room then go....You may need antibiotics...

Hand Injury: A cut injury could damage critical blood vessels in the hand and cause the hand to feel cold due to reduced blood circulation. You need to see a hand surgeon as soon as possible for proper evaluation and treatment.

Vasospasm: It is vasospasm also called raynauld's. It is unusual that it is in a single digit. I would wonder if she ever had trauma to that digit.

Don't worry: Doesn't sound serious to me, especially at your age. And probably not connected with your cold and cough. But if it enlarges or other areas of discoloration develop (anywhere on your body) not related to injury, or pain develops have this checked by your doctor.

Many options: This could be many things.   Arthritis, carpal tunnel, nerve pinching, vascular problem, insect bite, skin problem to name a few.  I would monitor for progressing symptoms such as increasing numbness and pain , try otc meds such as advil, (ibuprofen) and see what happens.  If no better or getting worse, see your doctor.

i picked up a very hot piece of metal today with my thumb and index finger, blisters and severe pain. nothing helps but cold water. it's 2am. help !

Chill: Keep chilling the burns, but take breaks to allow the skin to begin to heat up before continuing to chill. If you keep this up you may escape with little or no damage. Often it takes hours. The reason you take breaks it to avoid injury from the cold. See doctor if necessary.
