Confusing: What does your doctor assume you have?  Why have you had all of these tests so far, and i would assume others.  Generalized weakness can be due to many disorders, including muscle, nerve, and neuromuscular junction problems, but also chronic fatigue, anemias, thyroid problems, and occult cancers.  Suggest you see neurology docs at the nearest medical school and get some answers.

Yes: A false positive is possible. A test done by a reputable lab is far better than the otc options! false positives can happen even if your health status is perfect!

: It is exceedingly unlikely you were infected with the same strain of Chlamydia trachomatis for 18 years; if so, your doctor(s) would have reported it in the medical literature. (Longest known case 4 years, in a woman; none even a year in males.) Carrying gonorrhea that long also is impossible. HPV, sure:  lifelong infection is the norm and you could well have been infected since 1996.

Leuko-reduced: Most of the blood used for transfusion is leuko-reduced. CMV is carried by leukocytes and leuko-reduced blood is nearly as safe as CMV negative blood.

Antibody tests: Can be done - igm for acute infection and igg for prior exposure.  We use an antigenemia assay for monitoring in our bmt patients. Many centers use a pcr assay.

Yes: If you just had a blood transfusion and developed acute CMV shortly afterwards, that is the most likely cause. CMV is transmitted in various ways, and it's often hard to figure out how it was transmitted. I would refrain from sex and sharing body fluids until you have recovered.

Possible but...: Since all the donor blood and its products are screened for cmv, transmission of this virus through transfusion is very unlikely.
Cmv is ubiquitous, and about 3% of healthy newborns are reported to excrete this virus in their urine.
