i have had many bowel movements of long, strings white or clear mucus in my stool, or in place of a stool, what could it be? it's been present over a year?

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests.  You may take a fiber laxative like Metamucil and drink enough water daily so that your urine is colorless. For the long term you may try to increase your intake of fiber foods.

fair bit of mucus in stool daily, growling stomach when im about to belch, feel the urge to pass stool, and when i sleep. my poop looks normal  long except with mucus inside looking like white/ clear strings. im negative for parasites. what is it?

what can i do to clear backed up stool?

Constipated?: Colonics & purges are popular but should be avoided & can not be recommended (see earlier healthtap answers). Use of irritant laxatives are safe for the short-term only. Fiber supplements, stool softeners, & lavage agents like MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) are safe. Rx drugs are available based on work-up of your cause of constipation. However, patients define "constipation" differently than doctors--what's yours?

Mucus: Clear foam coating of stool is most likely mucus which is normally produced by the bowel. It is more noticeable in some people. If not accompanied by pain, bleeding or fever, it is likely benign.

Interesting...: You may be seeing mucous in the stool, which, if present, could be indicative of an inflammatory bowel disorder, such as ulcerative colitis or crohn's disease. But don't panic just yet. I suggest you see your doctor if this persists, especially if you see any blood mixed into the stool. Good luck.

Worms: Depends if they are in the bulk of the stools or on the outside. More often than not they tend to be on the outside as well.

Stools vary...: ...based on what you eat. As long as you feel well, don't see blood in the stool, and aren't losing weight unintentionally, then the consistency of your stools isn't a worry. They will change from day to day based on what and how much you eat. However, if you have persistent diarrhoea, fevers, abdominal pain, weight loss or bloody stools, you should be evaluated.

High fat diet: This is very common when your diet has large amount of fat. Try a low fat diet (like vegetarian) for a few days and you'll see your stools change markedly.

Likely constipation: Hard or incomplete evacuation of stool may be the result of constipation. Consuming more water along with fruits, vegetables and fiber may help.  An occasion use of a laxative may be necessary, but changing your diet is the better option with increasing water/liquid intake.  Hemorrhoidal suppositories can often relieve acute symptoms.
