Please call your OB: At this point in your pregnancy all ?S like this should be directed to your OB anytime of the day or night or weekend, that is most likely some mucus from your cervix but if there is any ? About rupture of membranes you need to be checked by your OB or at the labor  room and your OB should have gone over a list of things to look out for at this stage.

would a d&c be performed if a mother is miscarrying at 37/38 weeks pregnancy? and if so, how soon before the patient is discharged?

Term pregnancy: At that point, the pregnancy is full term and will be "stillborn."  A sad situation and I feel for her.
She will likely have her labor induced and deliver vaginally if possible.  The length of stay in the hospital will be similar to one for a regular birth.  This assumes the mother doesn't have a complication such as an infection.

Obgyn evaluation: You will need to contact your Obgyn to arrange an evaluation. Since you are near term you will need to make sure you did not break your water. You could just be dilating and passing your mucous plug. An evaluation will be needed to determine what is going on.

This is normal: It is common to experience discharge during pregnancy. As long as you are not experiencing other symptoms, like odor or itching, this is normal.

Accepted Answer

Nothing : Mucus, in and of itself, isn't a concern at 38 weeks. Reasons for concern are baby not moving as much or at all. Any vaginal bleeding, painful contractions, or the sensation your water may have broken.  If any of these latter concerns occur go to labor and delivery right away. Passing some mucus however is not a cause for concern.

Get checked : You will need to be examined to figure it out. Towards the end of pregnancy many women leak urine. You mucous plug also comes out. Yeast and bacterial vaginosis can occur. Most important though is to make sure you have not broken you water. You doctor will check you to evaluate.

Accepted Answer

Maybe: Though you will start having contractions to call it labor.  At 38 weeks, you can go into natural labor at any time, so you should have your bag packed to go to the hospital at any time.  The discharge is probably a physiologic discharge.

i'm 38 weeks pregnant and i've started getting clear thin but slightly stringy discharge when i wipe. is this normal or my mucus plug coming away?

"38w pregnant": The "mucus plug" may not be seen with every pregnancy,  but at 38 weeks, the pregnancy moves farther down into the cervical canal, which can dilate the canal somewhat, enabling a "clear, stringy discharge".  Usually at this point you are seeing your OB provider weekly, who will do an exam to see if you are close to going into labor.

Pregnancy problem: Although it doesn't sound particularly serious, the itchy and burning aspect may indicate some sort of infection. See your ob/gyn.
