gastro suggested merilax + citrucel for constipation. worked so i stopped merilax. now, after a week,  straining and a get  small stools today . why?

Evaluation needed...: Miralax (polyethylene glycol) is lavage agent; citrucel a stool bulker. Best to seek medical evaluation--rule out metabolic causes of constipation (e.g. Low thyroid or adrenal conditions), distinguish slow versus normal transit constipation, consider rectal dysfunction that may be treatable with biofeedback, check for structural pathology or extrinsic impingement, or intermittent ileus (e.g. Pseudo-obstruction), more.

Not really: I would not use any more bulk laxative than the directions indicate.  More is not necessarily better. I suggest good hydration, a balanced diet, and physical activity . Regularity varies from person to person, so don't think you must have a movement every day.  Good luck.

is soluble fiber unhelpful for constipation? it softened my stool of course, and even made me go to the bathroom, but i always read that insoluble is better, i tried to see if there's any cheap generic citrucel and i can't find any. help?

Insoluble fiber: Produces more stool.Soluble fiber helps reduce cholesterol. So both are beneficial. Time of day is irrelevant but best to spread out thru the waking hours. More important to prevent bloating, gas and constipation is adequate fluids: 80-100 oz of caffeine free/alcohol free fluids is recommended.

Yes: Can take citrucel. Try to work on diet, with or without probiotics; talk with dietician.

: For occasional constipation, I would try the fiber supplement first. This may be just enough to regulate the bowel movements. The fiber supplements are all about the same so whichever is easier for you to get and is affordable would be suitable. If this doesn’t solve the problem, you may want to see your doctor prior to taking any medicine for it to review possible dietary interventions. Good luck

always constipated. colonoscopy great july 2021. blood work great. do citrucel and stool softeners, orange bothers me. my poop smell is disgusting. egd great. i don't know what to do anymore. had ct scan of abdomen/pelvis. help! ruining my life?

: Sounds like you’ve been through quite a work up of your constipation.  I assume no blockage was found on the CT scan.  What suggestions have you gotten from your gastroenterologist?  Increase fluid intake? Increase exercise? Are you taking any medication that could worsen constipation?
