does citalopram cause constipation?

Possibly: Celexa (citalopram) along with other ssri antidepressants can cause GI distress in the form of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation. The symptoms may resolve in a week or two after beginning the med. Eating more fruits and vegetables, taking a fiber supplement &/or drinking prune juice may help. It is good to see your doctor to make sure there are no other causes for the constipation.

been on celexa (citalopram) 10mg for 2 months. just went up to 20mg now its been a week today. first few days constipation/ now its diarrhea. will this pass?

Celexa (citalopram): Celexa (citalopram) can mimic symptoms of ibs. That is constipation  or fiarrhea.

Celexa (citalopram) can do it: Meds. Like Celexa (citalopram) can have side effects. One of them is diarrhea. 
However, if your depression was causing your constipation and Celexa (citalopram) works and you are no longer depressed then constipation is also ended.

i am on citalapram. i have had constipation/diareah now i am taking laxatives to get back to regular. how long does it take to get back on track?

A short time: Citalapram  belongs to a class of drugs called "ssris" though there side effect profile is better than the older antidepressants, they do share them to some degree. The problems you describe may be due to the drug's anticholinergic activity. Though it is weak, individual responses vary. It is short lived and tolerance to this side effect is very common. In 10 days to 2 weeks.

take 10mg celexa a day and just took 4 tbsp of milk of magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for constipation.  just saw on drugs.com there's a moderate interaction. am i okay?

Yes.: You're on low dose of celexa. Just be cautious on milk of magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) use.  It's not good to use large amounts of milk of magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) at any time. The interactions you saw are very rare, and usually requires that you have electrolyte abnormalities that are not common at your age group.   Senna S is a vegetable laxative that is safer overall.

i am very constipated. i have stool softner.. will that help? i am on citolapram for panic attacks too. help! also its green and brown. help

Yes: Stool softeners like colace (docusate sodium) or surfak usually help. Citalopram is not known for causing problems with constipation, but it is possible. I would discuss your concerns with your doctor, especially if the constipation is a significant change for you. You may have something else going on which could benefit from some medical attention. SSRI antidepressant: Citalopram is a ssri medication used to treat anxiety and depression disorders, it's also used to treat ptsd and ocd. It takes 4 to 6 weeks to be fully effective. Side effects; sedation, minor temporary stomach issues, delayed orgasm in males and rarely weight gain. It is also approved for adolescents.

what occurs if you take 4x20mg and 3x10mg of citalopram?

Depends: I assume you are meaning to alternate days so you are effectively taking less of the med equivalent to about 15mg.  It depends on what your effective dose is.  You might dip below a therapeutic dose and have symptoms return.  If the reduction is due to side effects, consider a switch to Lexapro (escitalopram) which is more potent and side effects may be less.

Yes: Generally 80 mg of citalopram is likely to just cause fatigue and possibly nausea or vomiting. Serious side effects such as cardiac arrhythmia and seizures occur at significantly higher doses. However it's best you speak with your physician for specific advice.
