Interaction effects: Use of alcohol while on citalopram is strongly discouraged. Several important effects to know about: short-term there is a risk of increased drowsiness and sedation, dizziness, difficulties with concentration, and impaired decision making.  Second alcohol reduces effectiveness of citalopram, increasing risk of heightened depression or anxiety symptoms, and may interfere with treatment outcomes.

Be Careful: Even moderate alcohol use can be associated with depression.  Although there is no contraindication to an occasional drink, i would advise to be very careful with alcohol if you're being treated for depression.  Also there can be a link between depression and the development of addictive behavior.

Additive Effects: The general consensus among medical professionals would be to avoid such a combination of alcohol and ssris such as citalopram (celexa).  A drug interaction checklist offers a "caution advised" for this combination (not "avoid" nor "contraindicated") with reason of combo may increase risk of psychomotor impairment (additive effects).  However I do feel that 1-2 drink equivalents should be okay.

Yes: The combination can cause you to feel a little depressed for a few reasons. Celexa (citalopram) and alcohol both are metabolized in the liver.  This will impair celexa's ability to work well as an antidepressant.  Alcohol can magnify the side effects of medication, i.e. Making you feel more tired or down.  Alcohol is also a depressant just by itself.

HOW MUCH?: They will be additive regarding sedation. That's not a good idea for driving, gutter cleaning, tree trimming and other things where you don't want to doze off. Also the amount of drink is a real factor. 
Check with dr who prescribed Celexa (citalopram) and get dr's opinion re anxiety, depression, alcohol.
Therapy may be indicated. If in therapy, time to take it seriously.

Not a good idea but: Drinking alcohol while taking Celexa (citalopram) can increase the side effects of Celexa (citalopram) and vice versa.But if you drink, drink only small or moderate amont .That is 1drink a day for women and two drinks a day for men, and be careful as to side effects.You should not take MAO inhibiters, ectasy street drug, other ssris, st john warts, other sedatives and sleeping pills if approved by your doctor with care.Ask ur md.

No, but: technically no, but I usually recommend no more than 2 drinks at a time and no more than twice a week since I know that many of my patients will drink anyway. The main interaction is that the antidepressant may intensify effects of alcohol especially reaction time. Also alcohol can cause depression so may not be wort risk if you are doing well on celexa (citalopram)
