my ciprodex otic suspension ear drops expired january 2020, it is now october 1st 2020 and was wondering if they can still be used ?

Maybe: The use by date is basically the last point where the med is promised to be at full strength. It may weaken after that point, but may be strong enough to do what you need.

i lost the lid to my child's ciprodex otic (ciprofloxacin and dexamethasone) ear drops - will the ear drops go bad if they sit with no top/lid? does this affect the quality?

Don't think so: I think the cap is more for child safety and to make sure the medication does not spill.  I think the drops would be fine

gave ciprodex otic (ciprofloxacin and dexamethasone) ear drops to child & she claimed it got into her mouth (maybe draining from eustachian tube) did not see it get in mouth. harmful??

Ciprodex in mouth: Greetings. The ciprodex could get into the mouth after applying to the ear canals if your child has a perforation in her ear/s or if she has PE tubes. The drops could travel down the Eustachian tubes into the back of the mouth and throat. Even if directly applied to the mouth, it is a very low dose and will not cause any harmful problems.

Ciprodex otic safe: According to Lactmed, "maternal use of an ear drop or eye drop that contains ciprofloxacin presents negligible risk for the nursing infant." The dex in ciprodex is dexamethasone, it is also negligible risk for the breastfeeding infant due to small dosage of medication.  Ciprodex is safe to use while breastfeeding.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Manufacturer is warranting 100% effectiveness until expiration date.  There may be a very small/gradual decrease in effectiveness after expiration date.  But that is still very significant effectiveness for treating ear infections.  Still ok until you get a refill or run out.

Med safety: i wouldn't recommend its use in this case. If it was stored does this mean you had it for a prior diagnosis? Perhaps this isn't an instance where its use is appropriate and you may need to get seen and re-prescribed the same or even another medicine.

Should be OK: Ciprodex otic (ciprofloxacin and dexamethasone) suspension is often used topically for  otitis externa (inflammation of ear canal).

: There is no interaction there. If both were prescribed to you by a doctor, then you can take them simultaneously.

Yes: Perfectly safe to use eye drops on the ear but not the other way around.

my 6 month old bub was prescribed kenacomb otic ear drop and keflor anti for his ear infection that he has had for a while will this clear it &howsoon?

Ear infection: Most ear infections (85%) are viral in a child who has been vaccinated but having commenced antibiotics please complete the regimen - it will tke about 4 days to feel better.
