TUMT: Transurethral ultrasound microwave therapy for BPH initially causes a good deal of swelling in the prostate before any actual tissue shrinkage occurs.  Although it typically does not result in a great deal of prostatic shrinkage, there may be a noticeable benefit yet to come.

is daily cialis as effective as avodart (dutasteride) in shrinking the prostate?

No: Cialis does not shrink the prostate like Avodart (dutasteride). The mechanism of action for helping ease urinary symptoms is different but is effective in some patients.

: I'm not aware of such a paradoxical effect of cialis. Do you require cialis type meds in order to get enough of an erection for vaginal penetration? I don't recommend taking more than the maximal dose of cialis. A urologist can advise you best,especially regarding the interaction of prostate pathology and erection.

Enlarged prostate: Cialis 5mg daily has been given approval for use with bph.  There is no indication for viagra (sildenafil).

husband diagnosed w/a slightly swollen prostate,had been on flomax from his gp, but urologist suggested alfuzosin,husband found flomax worked better,whats the difference,is one better?why would urologist want to add cialis,he has no erectile problems?

: Alfuzosin &amp; Flomax are both 5-alphapreductase inhibitors &amp; work in the same way by relaxing smooth muscle in prostate &amp; bladder neck thus urinary flow &amp; frequency improve. Stay on Flomax if it works better. Cialis acts in similar way as well as being used for erectile problems. Thus, advise resume Flomax. Finasteride together + Flomax is better &amp; much cheaper than Cialis. Saw Palmetto is no good.

Not usually: There was a lot of interest in this treatment many years ago but results were not up to expectations. The number of patients helped by this type of procedure has been very small in my experience

yes: Yes, it is common to have bleeding after prostate surgery.  The key thing to do is to drink plenty of water to prevent the blood from clotting.  If you are concerned about the bleeding, please call your doctor or visit the nearest emergency room to receive further evaluation and treatment.

Unfortunately yes: Presume your question is for someone else, because age 37-years, if ur male, is very young to have prostate surgery. In any case incontinence can be corrected by means of an artificial urinary sphincter if incontinence does not respond to medication.

can prostate surgery be preformed while on blood thiner?

Accepted Answer

Depends: On which prostate surgery and which blood thinner. Many surgeons will operate on asprin. For laser prostate, some will operate on Plavix or lowered dose Coumadin (warfarin) if the surgery is urgent and you can't come off thinners safely. Most people can bridge to surgery , meaning use a short acting thinner for a week before surgery and then get back on their primary medicine right after surgery.
