Longer time to heal: The average fracture takes about 6 weeks to heal. The key is whether you are healing clinically (less pain, less swelling, normal motion and proper alignment) and whether the X-ray is demonstrating improvement (new bone and smaller fracture lines). Continue to follow up with your physician.

Nerve Injury: You may have pinched a a nerve in the hand or elbow called the ulnar nerve.  This nerve supplies half the middle finger, ring finger and little finger.  If it was sudden while you were doing something and went away no need for worry. If rapidly improving and NSAIDs can help. If it persists or is severe it could indicate damage to the nerve that should be evaluated. Very common, usually goes away.

Accepted Answer

Possibly: Presenting with multiple trigger fingers is not uncommon.  Sometimes the same problem develops in adjacent fingers simultaneously.  It is not likely that one finger causes the other finger to trigger, but simply that a similar process is developing.

Depends: There are too many types to answer.  In general, on the finger tip, they heal themselves but feel better if a splint is worn.  On other parts of the finger a "chip" can be the small piece of bone that pulls off when a tendon pulls off  and may require a more aggressive approach such as pinning or surgery.

Many possibilites: Several things could cause nails to fall out from the base including some chemotherapy medications, trauma, and fungal nail infections.

Depends: A fracture in your finger often does not require surgery.  Fractures that involve the joint and cause a step off of the joint need to be reduced and fixed.

Maybe osteoarthritis: Osteoarthritis is a common cause of pain at those finger joints. See your doctor for an evaluation.

Tendonitis: The first thing that comes to mind is flexor tendonitis, or trigger finger, especially if it is worse in the morning and gets better during the day. Tendonitis are swollen /inflamed tendons.   Usually warm water heats up the collagen which makes moving the finger's easier.  Have a hand surgeon evaluate your finger's because there are a lot a good treatment to help improve your problem if it cont.

my daughter has one nail growing on top of the other. the top nail lifts at the base of her finger and there is a second nail underneath? what's wrong

Accepted Answer

Chances are: The "old" nail on top became detached and a new nail started growing, which is pushing the old one out.  If there is no pain, in time, the old nail will fall out.  If she has pain, bring her to a dermatologist.

When the old nail falls off, it won't be a bloody mess or painful. She can put the nail under her pillow at night and the nail fairy will leave her a dollar. (and boy is she ugly!).
