Depends on issue: A learning disability implies a child with at least average intelligence shows a lack of ability in a specific area compaired to other kids their age. A reading disability will become evident when other kids can & they struggle. The same with math, remembering sequences of items, etc. Kids brains mature over time & new skills come in at variable rates, some have simple delays, others real problems.

Fun things: Activities that help promote movement of the limbs, that are fun, and slightly challenging. You can ask a physical therapist and/or occupational therapist as well. They would be better informed on specific activities.

Depends: It depends on the type and severity of the disability.A thorough  assessment and prompt intervention, accompanied by parent skill training optimizes the outcome.

No good answer: This is one of those awful decisions nobody wants to make, and there are a lot of personal beliefs involved. A couple things to think about before you decide. 1. The tests aren't always right. Sometimes ones for down's syndrome or spinal cord defects aren't accurate, or the ultrasound showed something that wasn't there. 2. The range of the disability is vast, could be life threatening, maybe not.

: It depends on what it was more specifically and is also up to you. For instance,  if you have a reading disability, with lots of hard work and lots of practice reading, you can actually overcome some of the reading developmental disorders such as dyslexia. But it just doesn't happen by magic - it takes hard work and commitment to practice. Some are harder to overcome than others - hang in there!

SHORT ANSWER: States and the federal government have laws that may allow a child to be considered able to get extra services--just as an example. But pure add/adhd in my opinion is not the norm. If slight depression is missed, stimulants may burn out. My point is if a child has things considered add they should have a full diagnostic eval with both a phd/psyd and md/do. Add is made worse by 200 plus med issues.

You can find out: The inheritance of various mental conditions is very complex.  You should seek the services of a genetic counselor.  These professionals are usually available at women's obstetric and children's hospitals.

Ultrasound and labs: Throughout pregnancy there are incremental examinations for disabilities. Sometimes there is an early sonogram inside of 10 weeks, that can visualize the heart and check size. Around 20 weeks, there is a full sonogram that looks over multiple areas for any kind of anomalies. Depending, there may be one later too. There are also labs drawn that look for congenital and spinal defects around 20 wks.

Patiently...: Toilet {or "potty"} training is difficult in and of itself; throwing any disability into the mix adds another level of difficulty.  Sometimes the 'team' approach is best; and positive reinforcement is helpful.  I do not know the exact nature of the disability so i cannot be more specific except do draw from my own parenting experience...When your child is ready then it happens; and  not before.
