Internet addictions can be a vehicle to hide emotional pain or impair delayed gratification development.

A disease of lies: Addicts lie, it's a fact. But this is not b/c they are bad people but b/c every positive motivation they have is hijacked by the need to use. Deciding to stop is good but not enough. The 3 things that move us are thoughts, feelings & biology. We think the mind is the captain but the emotions or the body can easily overrule a mental decision. When the 2 gang up vs. The mind it's like possession.

Divided: Experts are divided on this question.  However, regardless if any compulsive behavior is leading to distress and/or dysfunction, and you are not able to get a handle on it yourself in a reasonable period of time, or if there are urgent problems which can't wait, seek evaluation.  Counseling can definitely help with "technology addiction", and in some cases medications may be useful.

Could be anything: Getting "high" usually includes a sense of euphoria and decreased inhibition. The symptoms you describe could be from abuse of almost anything or even represent an underlying medical or psychological condition. Have you talked to her about getting help? Also, not to be judgemental, but i hope you are not on all 3 of the medications on your profile at the same time. Opiates can be addictive.

"Liking": Liking something whether it be a substance or activity to the point where there is a preoccupation resulting in harm.. Probably has to do with Dopamine in the brain which some people get more of a boost from than others. This is heavily genetically influenced. Some substances have such a profound effect that they tend to be more "addictive" than others-like smoked methamphetamine or nicotine.
