why is my belly button sore and irritated?

Umbilical discomfort: Your umbilicus (belly button) can be sore for numerous reasons, but the most common are: 1. You are washing it either too much, or 2. You are washing to too little. If, however, you are pregnant, then it is common for pressure to build up and push out the umbilicus, which can also cause discomfort. Lastly, my may have an umbilical hernia.

Several reasons: Rash around belly button can be caused by infections, poor hygiene, allergic reactions, psoriasis, scabies etc. Check up with your doctor to decide the proper treatment.

i have a burning, irritated feeling across my stomach and it will not go away.  it seems to be really intense around my belly button area. not sure wh?

Duration?: If the problem is improving, you may give it a day to see if it will improve and may even try antiacid medication to see if it helps. But if the pain is not getting any better or intolerable, best to see your doctor or go to the ER.

Fresh ???: The cord base should be dry &amp; healed by 9 weeks. Sometimes a nubbin of sore like tissue that needs to be cauterized with silver nitrate before it heals. If it seems to leak fluid there are other possibilities that the doc will need to explore. Please schedule a visit so this can be sorted out.

Answer to your ?: In humans, the navel scar can appear as a depression ("innie) or as a protrusion ("outie"). About 90% of humans have innies. An "outie" navel is caused by the extra scar tissue left from the umbilical cord or from umbilical hernias.  Umbilical hernias happen when the abdominal wall muscles don't close completely.  This is not a concern &amp; they eventually close on their own by age 3-4 yrs old.

Spasm?: I assume you had a vaginal delivery. The uterus enlarged during pregnancy and may have affected an organ in your abdomen. I would suggest that you make an appt with your primary care physician and let him/her check you out.

Several things...: Has she had any contacts with illness? Any recent travel? Loose stools? Bloody Stools? Any contact with animals, pets, in particular reptiles? Past history of constipation? Any fever?   Is pain intermittent? or is it persistent and worsening? Can she walk? or is she lying very still?  These are the first questions we will ask when evaluating her.

No: Have your OB MD make sure that you do not have a concurrent uterine fibroid(s) present with the existing pregnancy.
