It depends: Chemotherapy program can be as simple as a single drug. Common combinations have two drug. There are some complicated combinations that has 6 drugs that alternate in a schedule. It really depends on the type of cancer.

This not a true chem: It is a form of somatostatin, which is used to treat symptoms from carcinoid syndrome such as severe diarrhea, itch severe flushing.
It has many other uses outside of oncology. It also is used for scaning for spread of carcinoid and other tumors associated with a neuroendocrine function
it can affect the thyroid, glucose control, heart rate as side effects.

It may cause hair loss and decrease in white blood cell counts. Kidney function should be monitored and IV fluids given.  Some long term effects is neuropathy (numbness fingers) and  hearing loss but these tend to be due to cumulative dose.
