To the doctor, ASAP.: Severe calf pain, seemingly for no reason, can be the onset of a serious condition known as a deep vein thrombosis, or clot. Because of the potential consequences of leaving it untreated, you should move to have your leg evaluated quickly.  There could be other reasons also, but without a better history of your condition, it would be best to have it evaluated, and right soon.

Stretching: A "charley horse" in my terminology would be a cramp in the muscle. It can caused by a muscle inbalance of leg muscles in front vs back of the leg, swelling of the muscle and then cutting off the blood supply to the muscle. Apply ice, never heat, to the area. Stretch the muscles. See a physical therapist.

Dehydration?: When there is a simultaneous bilateral problem, think what could be happening that would affect my whole system via my blood stream? Dehydration can cause bilateral calf spasticity, especially if you're low on electrolytes. Also, the onset of a virus is systemic and could cause this. If your pain is improving hour by hour just wait, if it's getting worse, seek medical help ASAP. Good luck!

: Cramping, especially the calf, is common. Med for high cholesterol, some blood pressure medications or low volume may trigger cramping.
Magnesium supplement, 200 mg at bedtime, may be helpful.
Tricks to relieve cramp: get out of the bed if you can, standing up, raise the opposite arm up as far as possible or walking backward if you are able to or press hard the point between nose and upper lip.

Calf pain: Possibly but it doesn't sound typical for pain associated with a dvt.  There is usually some swelling and/or redness as well with dvt.   It sounds like nerve pain (sciatica) or muscle cramps.  Probably a good idea to have your doctor check it out.

Few hours to day: A muscle spasm (or charley horse) in the calf can be painful for a few hours to a day or 2 afterwards.  For myself, i usually massage, use some heat, gentle stretching and anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen.

Many possible causes: Medications, including methylphenidate, may contribute to muscle spasms.  Other possibilities could include electrolyte imbalance, overuse, or tendinitis.  Your doctor may be able to help clarify with some blood tests and a physical examination.
