Pelvic pain: Pelvic pain is a very complex issue with many possible causes. Mittelschmerz pain is brief and resolves quickly. If you are having persistent pain on one side then this likely warrants evaluation. See an Obgyn to be evaluated for ovarian cysts, infections and other possibilities.

No need to check: Cervical position and consistency is only relevant when you are pregnant especially in the late 3rd trimester. Hormonal changes during the menstrual cycle cause very subtle changes in the cervix that are not important to monitor. No judgments or clinical decision making can be accurately made based on cervical position or consistency in a non-pregnant patient.

Do hpt if you miss: your period. Conception, as defined by the generation of a fertilized ovum, occurs within day or so of the sex. However, it takes about two weeks for the embryo to make enough HCG to produce a positive pregnancy test. Blood test may be done a day after a missed period. Home pregnancy tests should be done 4-5 days after the missed period. Use first morning urine and follow instructions for the test carefully.

: If one has regular periods (24-32 days apart), starting a oral bcp regimen should begin one the second or third day of an expected menstruation, and the active pills taken w/in the hour of the prior day's active pill. Starting "after ovulation" is like using bcp's as a "morning after" contraceptive, and is far less than 100% in preventing pregnancy.
