Cephalosporins: These are antibiotics that have a very broad spectrum of use for many different bacterial infections.  They are often used first or second line for many common infections and have to be used with care in patients with allergies to penicillin or other cephalosporins.  They can treat skin, respiratory, urinary and sexually transmitted infections among many others.

Some risk, but: The risk of an allergic reaction to cephalosporins in a penicillin-allergic patient is generally reported at between 7-18%. However, cephalosporins are very often given to patients who report an allergy to penicillin without any reactions. The exception is the patient with an anaphylactic reaction. You can be tested for confirmation of  true penicillin and cephalosporin allergy.

Not really: Equally effective regardless of time of day.  Meals should not effect efficacy.  Same for Keflex (or other cephalosporins), although it may be slightly less irritating (if you are having any belly discomfort) if taken with meals.

OK for UTI;no longQT: The cephalosporin class can be used for treatment of a uti. Hopefully a culture was obtained to make sure the bacteria you are treating is sensitive to this. Cephalosporins cause no long qt issues.

Reasonably common: The higher the dose of the antibiotic and the longer the treatment duration, the greater is the likelihood of developing C diff
