We know that the more frequently the catheter is manipulated or "accessed", the more likely an infection will occur in the blood stream. Other causes include obvious breaks in technique and failure to use sterile technique with dressing changes.

Enlarged LN: The ultrasoud report says you have an enlarged lymph node. Supraclavicular LNs enlarge for a variety of reasons, often some source of infection or inflammation in the chest or arm. Sometimes the initial source can be a tiny wound or entry point in the skin that heals over, but the inflammation takes root in the LN.

Plhyperpigmentation: You evidently have a skin type that makes extra melanin (coloring) in response to inflammation.  It will fade with time, but you should avoid sun and see a dermatologist for other ideas.

: HIV cannot be transmitted through above mentioned mechanism unless fresh contaminated blood on the edge, the virus does not live on inanimate surfaces or in the air. There is still a risk for transmission for other germs and the wound should be watched closely until healed.

i have chronic sinusitis . i just started allergy shots. can my sinus infections be from keeping my bedroom cold with my central air and window ac at 66 degrees? problem is if i put it in 70s i cant sleep. maybe humidifier in cold room help?

Chances are small...: The risks are low but can be serious; when it's recommended that a central line be placed, it's felt that the benefits outweigh the risks...Things we worry about at the time of central line placement are: collapsed lung (pneumothorax), infection, arterial placement, bleeding/hematoma, abnormal heart rhythm, air embolus. Later on, infection & DVT are the main concerns.
