10-14 days: For most people, the worst side effects a medication will resolve with 10-14 days, sometimes sooner.  I usually advise patients for side effects occurring during this time period, if it is tolerable, try to hang in there, because it may resolve altogether given adequate time.  If it is intolerable, or lasts longer than this, call your doctor.

i have taken celexa (citalopram) for two weeks. for the past four days i have had watery stools. is this a side effect of celexa (citalopram)? i also drank beer all 4 days.

Celexa (citalopram) side effects: Up to 8% of patients taking Celexa (citalopram) have reported diarrhea. Celexa (citalopram) combined with alcohol can increase psychomotor impairment. Never a good idea to drink when taking meds of this nature. As for the diarrhea, that may subside as your body adapts; keep hydrated; add fiber to diet to firm up bm's. If problem persists, see prescribing doc to discuss alternate medication.

Something else: It is not related to Celexa (citalopram). You should speak with your own doctor. There are several possible causes including med side effects.

Extreme anxiety: Can include the use of medication but please do not forget mind-body modalities.  The gut is sometimes called "the second brain" because it is connected to thinking/moods.  Consider biofeedback or clinical hypnosis (see www.asch.net for licensed referrals).  Peace and good health.

Yes: The pain med is likely causing constipation. This leads to straining when you have a bowel movement which leads to  hemorrhoids. Senna with colace (docusate sodium) will help (every drug store carried this).  If this continues for more than 10 days, kindly see your primary.  Thank you.

wife has bad chest cold. coughing yellow phlegm. sore from coughing, lack of sleep. takes citalopram and clonazepam for panic attacks, zyrtec (cetirizine) for allergies. what to take now and when to get help. ?

Regular medications: Cold symptoms respond to allergy medicine and cough medication will help.She can continue her current meds as prescribed.

Not sure: Yellow stool can be related to GERD, Celiac Sprue, Steatorrhea, Hepatitis, Cirrhosis &amp; gallbladder diseases.

May be diet related: Usually color and consistency of stool is related to food. But it could also be caused by medications, or problems with liver , pancreas , gallbladder and colon. If after changing your diet it stays the same you need to see a dictor.

Bile-colored stool: The amount, color, frequency of stool varies with foods, speed of emptying of the GI tract, medications & supplements ingested, gut flora (unique for each individual), additives (like blood), subtractions (like absent bile), infection, inflammation, & other factors. If stool pattern has changed, is unusual for you, & the change persists, or is accompanied by other symptoms, see your doctor.
