Pain with urination: Dysuria is usually caused by infection (urinary tract infection) but can be the result of kidney stones, bladder spasms, stds.  It is usually caused by inflammation of the urinary tract or lining of the urinary tract which is irritated by urine flowing across it resulting in pain.

Consider I.C.: Interstitial cystitis, i.C. Is often difficult to diagnose. Usually the patient has seen several doctors prior to getting the diagnosis.  It can cause pain with urination and especially pain with bladder filling. It can cause pain with intercourse and usually requires cystoscopy to help with the diagnosis.  Diet has a pretty significant impact on it.  Even without i.C., diet can affect dysuria.

Sounds like a: problem for urologist.  Get a referral to a urologist at your nearest university medical center or tertiary referral center.  This is not normal.

No: Just regular vitamin pills do not cause dysuria in my experience.  I suppose if you were taking lots of calcium supplements that could in rare cases lead to kidney stones (which are painful).

Causes: The most common cause for a man your age to have dysuria would be a sexually transmitted infection. Go see a doctor and get an exam and talk about testing.

Trauma: Not necessarily. Usually trauma to the urethra with intercourse causes this.

Chronic dysuria: Have you been treated for infections, like chalmydia, BV, trichomoniasis, mycoplama (BV  and mycoplasma more common in women but if you have female partners a possibility) as well as non specific urethritis/prostatitis?
Have seen chronic pain with tiny stones, post surgery,may also occur from medication( possibly Luvox (fluvoxamine) was the timing coincident?) ,sciatica, autoimmune disease. Discuss with doctor
