i have a pain in my left waist area. it started on the right side 2 days ago and has made it's way to the left. what could cause this?

Abdominal discomfort: This discomfort may be muscular or be due to an inflammatory process within the abdomen. Possibilities include appendicitis, right and/or left sided diverticulitis or inflammatory bowel disease. Is there any tenderness on pressing portions of the abdomen? Any bowel or digestive disturbances? If symptoms persist, you will need to be examined by a physician and if symptoms are severe,go to the ER.

A couple of things: That area has abdominal &amp; core muscles, ascending large colon, some small colon, lung/diaphragm, liver, gall bladder, ureter, kidney, &amp; is not too far from appendix &amp; ovary. I'm thinking pulled/strained muscle, but it could be "referred pain" rough translation "problem not where pain felt" which doesn't really help you. Keep an eye out for other clues. What makes it worse, better? Food? Fluid? BM?

With severe pain, one may need evaluation at the er, plus urine tests, blood tests, and perhaps ct and/or ultrasound scanning.

Usually constipation: Right sided pain usually worry about gall bladder or appendicitis. On the left side the organs are colon, spleen, part of pancreas, part of stomach, and left kidney. Without associated fever or trauma, the most common cause is bowel gas and constipation. If persists, then should consult pediatrician for physical examination and possibly imaging.
