Nerves: True fasciculations are spontaneous contractions of single muscle fibers. This is due to nerve damage. The nerve can be damaged anywhere between the spinal cord and the motor end-plate where the nerve fiber contacts the muscle fiber. There are lots of causes, such as poisons, trauma, inflammatory diseases, nutritional deficiencies, neurodegenerative diseases. Note cramps are not fasciculations.

Start with a medical: Eval. It may uncover underlying medical problems that need to be addressed.  Seeing a therapist cognitive behavioral therapy can be quite effective. Psych meds may be indicated. Aim for daily exercise, 8 hours of sleep per night ; good nutrition w 5 servings of veggies ; 4 of fruit per day. Try tai chi, yoga, qi gong, progressive muscle relaxation, deep breathing exercises ; meditation. Take care.

Varies: Muscular fasciculations could be benign, associated with thyroid disorder, or even due to Lou Gehrig's disease.  The EMG will assess the physiology, but will not provide final diagnosis as your doctor will need to compile all the data, and correlate.  However, at your age, most likely this is benign.
