Pregnancy or tumor: Hcg is the normal hormonal product of the placenta and so levels are high in pregnancy; a urine pregnancy test looks for hcg.  However some tumors also produce hcg, so a high level in a man, or in a non-pregnant woman, strongly suggests a tumor that needs to be found and treated as soon as possible.

No: Hcg has a fairly long half life so it may take some time for the levels to fall. Usually HCG levels are followed after medical treatment for ectopic pregnancy or after spontaneous abortion.

pregnant - lmp: oct 17/conception: nov 07. bloodwork: dec 06 showed hcg level of 7, 801. this is on the lowest end of "normal." is this a cause for concern in any way?

Would need more info: It is more important to see if the HCG level is appropriately rising rather than what the actual number is.  Additionally, it would be important to know what the ultrasound findings are since you would be 6 and 6/7 weeks pregnant at this point.  I would suggest being seen by an ob/gyn.

Your doc should: Also do a Progesterone level to see if it is normal range for a preg greater than 10 is normal greater than 20 is good 5 or less is bad  and they can do another bhcg as the bhcg should double in 3 days and when u are 6 1/2 -7 weeks gestation should be able to see a htbeat if u have a viable pregmnancy.

Spontaneous: cysts rupture occurs when the fluid filled sac reaches maximal size, usually due to expansion of fluid within the cyst.

HCG: One HCG result cannot in any way be used to reassure you.  That would be impossible. HCG changes and the changes are what tell us if the pregnancy is healthy or not. 512 seems very low.

It doesn't correlate: The HCG level does not tell you the number of weeks into a pregnancy. It would be like asking, "I'm driving 87 miles per hour, so how far from Los Angeles am I?" Nobody can tell. A study of over 8000 women shows how wide the HCG range can be. It found women with an HCG in the 40,000's anytime between 7 and 37 weeks of pregnancy. Does not seem high: Your blood betaHCG levels rise very rapidly during early .They  will usually double every 48 to 50 hours and their fluctuation may be affected by the sex of your fetus and by your ethnicity, your age, your body weight and other factors.
