Fluid in abdomen.
Local swelling of soft tissue or hernia are also possible in left abdomen.
Rarely an enlarged kidney or mass can occur.
FIND out by seeing your PCP with full history and good physical exam, and the testing as guided by these factors.

Several causes: There are several potential causes of abdominal swelling. Gas trapped in the bowel, from partial obstruction, bad gallbladder, gastric reflux are a few. If you are vomiting or running fever get checked right away. If you are okay, try a bowel regimen, low fat diet, small frequent meals and more hydration. If not better in a week or so, get checked by your doc.

If it is just the lower abdomen, and the patient is female, it may be due to gynecologic problem or even gyn malignancy.  If it is with constipation, a laxative may help.

Sometimes a CT can be better at identifying other pathology such as an ovarian cyst or urachal cyst that would not be seen on US
