Nerve damage : Herpes virus damages nerve cells in the spinal cord. Disballance between different nerve fibers may cause numerous abnormal feelings including the itch.

got a shot yesterday for my scalp thought it would help the occipital neuralgia i was told i have... but i still feel tenderness and raw, pain on the side of my scalp and my scalp itches here and there. what could this be?

Scalp pain: Occipital neuralgia doesn't usually cause discomfort on the side of the scalp. Has your scalp shown any rash, pustules or other lesions to suggest  infection of hair follicles, shingles, psoriasis? I recommend a reevaluation of your symptoms by your physician or dermatologist.

vaginal yeast infection started a week ago, treated with 3 doses of flucanazole, cleared up-at same time, had flare up of trigeminal neuralgia, put on steroidpack (methylprednisolone 4 mg)-yeast infection now itching again, should i stop steroid?

: Stopping medrol pack will not stop the ongoing yeast vaginitis so you may need fluconazole again. Unfortunately, you did not tell your doctor, I assume not the one who prescribed fluconazole, about your recent yeast infection. You should call either doctor for their opinions if medrol pack was helpful in relieving the neuralgia in the past.

Post op issue: All the nerves that go the foot originate in the lower back. It stands to reason that if you had recent surgery there then that is most likely the cause. Consult the surgeon who did your procedure

Pain: Neuralgia is, by definition, pain that occurs without stimulation of pain receptors.  Herpes infections, which include "shingles", often result in this syndrome.

dothiepin has benefit in management of neuralgia. can withdrawal of dothiepin cause nerve pain as a withdrawal symptom?

Yes: If this tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) is working for the treatment of your neuralgia, then if you stop taking the medication, it's likely the neuralgia pain will reemerge. Not likely: These nerves do not cross the midline, so having pain referred from one anatomic side to another really wouldn't make sense. It is possible you could have similar problems on both sides or a problem higher up.

Many options: Occipital neuralgia is a condition in which the nerves which run from the top of the spinal cord up through the scalp, which are called the occipital nerves, are inflamed or injured. This may cause pain in the back of your head or the base of your skull.
Symptoms will improve or disappear with heat, rest &amp;/or physical therapy, including massage, anti-inflammatory medications &amp;
 muscle relaxants.

Yes: A toothache can mimic the pain of trigeminal neuralgia, but depending on where the infection is located and how much it has spread, it could cause an inflammatory reaction around branches of the trigeminal nerve and cause trigeminal neuralgia. I wouldn't say that it's a typical cause for trigeminal neuralgia though.

Typical: Unilateral occipital head pain, usually of a burning or electrical nature, associated with a pain trigger at base of skull behind mastoid bone, and perhaps local numbness over the distribution of the Greater Occipital Nerve of Arnold.
