Individual experienc: Because each person is unique, being hospitalized in a psychiatric facility would be a little different for each one.  But generally the person would be in a protected space where a good evaluation of his/her difficulties could happen, and where an effective treatment plan could be developed.  A team of psychiatrists, nurses, psychotherapists, social workers, aides, etc would care for the person.

Risk of harm: The main indication for hospitalization is usually that the patient presents a risk of harm to themselves or others.  Suicidal thinking, aggression, mania, depression, and psychosis are common causes.

Depends on location: Psychiatric hospitalization varies depending on where you are hospitalized but typically these are locked units with restrictions on what kind of clothes you can have (no shoe laces, belts, etc). They also limit items you can hurt yourself with. You typically have patients to interact with, as well as nurses, social workers, therapists etc. You can have various different groups, be offered meds.

Full : Full disclosure of your history is key to successful treatment. Be completely honest with your doctor about your past, your issues with previous doctors, and what you think went wrong. Hopefully the doctor will be able to sort through all the issues and come up with an appropriate treatment plan; if not then ask for a direct referral to someone who can help you.

Yes: Mtfr mutations are currently thought to contribute to depression, and medications such as l-methylfolate may be helpful.

Why did you stop: Abilify (aripiprazole) and Cymbalta cold turkey?  That is risky and can side effects. Please consult with the prescribing medical provider.

Stigma: There is a lot of stigma around mental illness and by that token stigma towards medications that treat mental illness. Now psychiatric medications are like medications to treat diabetes in other words are taken for a long time and hence chance of long term side effects. Psychiatric medications do not change who you are but just treat the illness.

Yes: Depression has been associated with low vitamin d levels.
