Good question: No one knows why but it is suspected to be an autoimmune problem. The good news is that it may subside in a few years. Be sure you don't jump into cold water until the problem can be evaluated by an allergist.

: In Oriental medicine, urticaria could be one manifestation of an underlying liver disease and high ALT is also one sign of liver disease. However, in western medicine there is no such relationship. However, to my knowledge an allergic reaction can cause urticaria and cause liver dysfunction which can raise ALT. As I answered before, have the test done again before jumping to any conclusion.
