Varies: The medication used as an anesthetic during cataract surgery is frequently Versed, which produces a sort of "twilight sleep" (as you mention in your question).  Usually this effect is supplemented with either topical numbing drops or an injection of numbing medication behind the eye.  There are other medications which are used occasionally as well.

Yes: LASIK alters the corneal surface on the outside of the eye.  Cataracts occur on this inside and are mostly age related.  The presence or absence of LASIK has no influence on this so you could still get cataracts as you put on years.

'blurred lines': Avoid direct sun light to the eyes, foods that predispose to adult onset diabetes, and prolonged systemic or topical steroid use. Otherwise, it's genetics that imipact the timeframe for cataract developement.

Steriod: Steroid and NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs/drops) reduce and help the swelling resolve.  The biggest variable is time though.

I : I agree---going off the medicine does not good.  Just let your doctor know that you are on it and he can take the necessary operative precaustions during the surgery.  Don't let this stop you from having the surgery that will improve your vision.

: Azelastine is an antihistamine and fluticasone is a steroid. Fluticasone has a potential to induce cataract when used for a prolonged period.  However, such risk potential for fluticasone spray is still very low.
