Yes: Of course much depends on what the scan is intended to show, but generally speaking, there is no contraindication to eating or drinking before a ct scan.

can cat scan of chest and x-ray of chest have different results?

Accepted Answer

Not unusal: The ct scan will provide much more information than the chest x-ray. Findings suspected on a chest x-ray may be confirmed or eliminated on the ct. Things that are inapparent on a chest x-ray are commonly demonstrated on the ct. The price is higher cost and higher radiation exposure of the ct compared to the chest x-ray.

i had a chest cat. scan today and am due for a mammogram. is a mammogram necessary now?

Yes : I do not know your detail history, however , i will say -yes, you still need your mammogram. A ct scan will not replace mammogram .You should discuss further with your doctor who knows your medical history, however.

if you had a chest cat scan with contrast would it of caught tb if you had it?

Accepted Answer

Possibly: But you would not necessarily know it was tb, only that there was some lesion on the ct scan.  The diagnosis would be confirmed by history, testing, and possibly by culture and stain of respiratory secretions or bal or biopsy.

Enlarged hilum: An enlarged hilum seen on chest xray could be due to enlarged of abnormal lymph nodes(tb, malignancy) or enlarged structures such as an artery. Many times, however, the chest ct scan shows there is no significant abnormality when the chest film suggests an abnormally prominent hilum.

if i feel a discomfort around my shoulder blade and chest area, does it make to sense to get a cat scan or mri for inspection?

Evaluation: Please see your PCP, and among possible causes are heartburn, an irregular heart beat or chest wall strain. 
Avoid spicy and acidic foods, and apply local heat to assess whether this improves the pain.

i had a cat scan of chest and there was an incidental finding that there was done thyroid thickening . what does that mean could that be thyroid cance?

Unlikely: Your note suggests that the whole thyroid gland is mildly enlarged. This is called a goiter and is not cancer. If the gland is enlarged in just one area there may be a nodule or cyst of the thyroid gland and these are also likely to be benign. Your doctor should be able to clarify the findings on the report.

YES: it is a very common complaint in young people!
In females large breasts can be the problem ( and the possibility of poor support IGNORED..

Discuss with doctor: Discuss the situation with your doctor.  What to do next depends on the actual images on the ct and the opinion of the radiologist (a doctor specializing in image interpretation). Your doctor may need to talk to the rad.

Sometimes the ct can clearly determine if the nodule is benign, but sometimes followup ct's are required.  If there is an old ct to compare with, that would be extremely helpful.

First concern : Comes to everyone's mind is always cancer! that is why further diagnostic tests/ imaging are being done to help make a diagnosis and be more conclusive. Just wait for the results and hear from your doctor. Technology is far too advanced now, lots of treatment options are now available more than ever! good luck.
