hi. i broke my knee and now after 1 month, the plaster cast is removed but my leg keeps swelling even my foot has swelled and my skin is darker than usual, is this a part of the healing process or is it a problem? what the reason can be?

: Does your attending MD know about the leg &amp; foot swelling? I'm concerned about a blood clot in a vein. A leg ultrasound to check for phlebitis is indicated. Inform your MD or consult a vascular surgeon ASAP

Try to ignore it: And, in particular, do not use any instrument to scratch it.  The skin under a cast can easily be macerated by even mild pressure, and can cause an infection.  An oral antihistamine like Claritin (loratadine) can help some, so try that.

They typically have particular ways that they recommend caring for your wounds, which will allow them to standardize monitoring and follow-up.  The concerns would be inflammation or infection in the skin, which could become dangerous.

Yes: The cast may have pressed on the skin and caused some some bleeding under the skin. If you are really concerned please consult with your family physician. There is nothing like a visual exam to make an accurate  diagnosis.

my skin is peeling on my fingers, my wrist is in a cast after a break and a surgery putting in pins. why is the skin peeling on the part (fingers) tha?

Not to worry: Skin is always forming to replace what wears off naturally. When a cast is on the wrist, you are not using the fingers as much as normal so the skin builds up and sloughs. This should resolve when you get the cast off. When skin and dermal debris build up it also may contribute to itching you may feel.
