i have acid reflux & have taken carafate, dexilant, (dexlansoprazole) tums and zantac, but i had to stop all the medications due to side effects. what should i do now?

Lifestyle: There may be some lifestyle issues you can modify to lessen the problems you have with reflux. The chemicals in coffee, tea &amp; some sodas  (caffeine) or it's cousin nicotine (smokers) all keep the stomach entrance from closing tightly. Removing them from your life can help.Not reclining for at least an hour after a meal or large beverage can also.

Not usually: Sucralfate is one of the most easy to tolerate drugs prescribed.  Having said that, however, anyone can have a reaction to any given medication. If you are having specific problems with it, stop it and contact the doctor who prescribed it. Good luck.

take liquid carafate. went down the wrong pipe, coughed my head off. still coughing and little discomfort. will dose be just as effective?

Carafate: As long as most of the dose went down the right tube you should be OK.  If cough would persist, more SOB or fever get seen.

Probably 2-4 hours.: To minimize heartburn, cut down on coffee, oranges, spicy foods, soda, alcohol etc. Take care!

No known: Drug drug interaction on Lexicomp. Individual side effects to each dry still apply. Take drugs as instructed.

: Duplicate question; see other reply. This is a complicated situation and cannot be adequately addressed on this or any other online forum. If ciprofloxacin in fact is needed, the risk of serious side effects is very low; there are 40 years of experience with it, with few dangerous outcomes and no reported deaths except in patients a lot older than you. Keep working with your doctors.

Moderation: Too much or too little of anything is nearly always bad. If you drink too much water without the proper electrolytes you will get water intoxication which will make you very ill. As for the other liquids, the adverse effects depend on what kind.  Moderation is the key to a healthy life.

colonoscopy & liquid that's needed before test , causes me big side effects &now its needed again, please can u advice of alternative tests if any availabl?

Colonoscopy: There are many options for bowel preparation to choose from.  Some of these options are much smaller in volume and also there is pill form.  You should discuss your concerns with your GI physician to determine the best options for you.  There are other options beside colonoscopy, but none of the other ones will have therapeutic benefits (most of the other ones are diagnostic).  Again, discuss!
