my 13 year old son went to the doctors today due to one of his testicles being high up in the sac. what does this mean? hes been referred for a scan

It happens: The testis travel with their blood supply from their origin next to the kidneys down into the sac, usually by 28-34 wks in pregnancy. Some don't make it all the way. The  work better if they at positioned properly. Sometimes a muscle holds them high in the sac. I wouldn't stress at this point. The scan will document normal blood flow/size/function.

if i have a pain in one of my testicles, what kind of doctor should i go to to have it examined, and at what urgency?

Primary or urologist: You can see your primary care doctor for an evaluation and if they are unable to diagnose the problem a urologist should be able to. Some urologists will require a referral from your primary care physician.

can the removal of one testicle (due to a tortion) cause discomfort for the other? after examination doctor said the one left has no problem.

Accepted Answer

Torsion: Typically if one testis is detorsed, or removed for torsion, the other testis is stitched into place so that it cannot twist in the future. If that was performed, there could be some post-surgical pain.

Testicle pain : This is usually an inflammation of the nerve go to the testicle or the nerve leaving the junction between the mid and lower back. Have the veins around the testicle been evaluated?

my testerone was checked and it was 353.  doctor said that they do nothing until below 300.  i had one testicle taken as a child should i be taking testerone?

was perhaps is low all my life, my testicle was taken at 6th grade. i still have the other one.

One : One testis is generally sufficient to produce normal levels of testosterone and induce normal male secondary sex characteristics. A total testosterone > 300 ng/dl is usually considered normal. However, there are other factors that can influence testosterone bioavailability. These can be determined with additional testing. However, in the absence of sexual dysfunction, a lowered sex drive, or other symptoms and signs further investigation is not typically indicated.

Testis : Any lump on the testicle itself should be evaluated by a urologist.  On the other hand, lumps above the testis, arising from the epididymis, are very common and are simple cysts.  Get an exam to be certain.  You are within the age group for testiicular cancer.

Testicular lumps: Always need to be examined by a physician, there are many different causes. He or she may recommend testing such as an ultrasound to further diagnose this.  Having blood tinged semen can be a normal occurrence in some men. Just make sure you keep your appointment. Good luck!

: This is totally normal. In virtually all sexually mature males, one testicle may be slightly larger than the other and hang lower. This is so common that men's custom tailors have words for it:  "Do you dress right or left?" Meaning they leave a bit more room on one side of the midseam or the other, because both testicles normally fall on the side of the lower one.

should i follow up with my doctor for a testosterone check? if i got one testicle? or it does not matter? what does testosterone do to the body?

Accepted Answer

: The testis makes one of the hormones needed for your body to go through puberty and finish growing. If you are doing so at a normal rate a doctor would not order such a test just because you had only one testis. Your growth and changes through puberty are evidence enough it works okay by itself.
