during cold weather, there'll be red dots on fingers and sometimes on toes. it is pain and itchy sometimes. cannot  bend my fingers. why?

Red toe dots: its called chillblains. It is an allergic reaction to cold weather. Keep your hands and feet warm.

have swelling just below knuckles on top of hand. cannot bend my two fingers located just past thumb for a least a hour upon awa have carpall tunnel for 30 years in left hand which is the hand i'm having problems with. is there over-the-counter medication

Antiinflammatories : Antiinflammatories suchas tylenol, (acetaminophen) Ibuprofen or Naproxen are the more common ones used.
See a hand surgeon, you may have a trigger finger that get better with injection or sugery.

See a doctor: You should be checked to see if you have Scleroderma or other Collagen Vascular Disease, as these can cause these kinds of symptoms.

a cactus poked my finger yesterday but the spine is not still in my finger.  i woke up with very painful left indrex finger and cannot bend it.

Finger infected: If a finger becomes very painful after removing a cactus spine, especially if you can't move it, or if the finger is swollen and warm it's likely a bacterial infection in the finger.  This needs urgent attention because if the infection gets worse it can damage the delicate structures in your finger and you could loose some function.

See your physician TODAY or go to Urgent Care or Hospital.

See doctor.: Could be a couple of things: 1. The finger is healing properly, but it became stiff from immobilization, talk with your doctor about range of motion exercises.  2.The swelling is due to infection (but usually also have pain).  3. The laceration on the finger involved a tendon, which is a more serious injury.  Bottom line, see your doctor about this.

Usually normal...: Depending on the mechanism of injury (or how you hurt it), the findings may be normal. For example, jamming your finger while catching a football or basketball can cause injury to the ligamentous structures around the joints causing swelling, stiffness and pain. Symptoms should usually resolve within 6-8 weeks. If symptoms persist with minimal resolution, seek help from your primary doc.

i sprained my 4th finger and i cant bend it all the way and its crooked. i got an xray and its not broken. should i go back to md or wait?

If there is a change: Since  your finger has changed  you need to see your physiciasn or even see a hand surgeon. Early X-rays  may not  see a fracture.  This could be  a damaged  tendon or a damaged ligament or damaged lumbricals. This  needs to be fixed now or it could lead to  a permanent change

Ligament injury: It's unlikely a joint dislocation although I've seen plenty of patients with "normal" X-rays who have significant joint injury. I recommend you see an orthopedist or Hand specialist  asap.  The hand is intolerant of injury and missed problems can really leave lifelong problems.

Arthritis: This sounds like an inflamed joint that will probably need to examined and treat with steroids.
