Really?: Not sure that's true.  It should be just as good if you wash the fresh tomatoes thoroughly.  The plus on the fresh type is that you know exactly what ingredients go into the sauce and how much.  Also, the problem with canned items in the U.S. Is that many cans are lined with bpa which may or may not disrupt endocrine function (it's banned in most of the rest of the industrialized world).

I would say no: I don't think we can make a blanket statement that it's bad for everyone. It can be bad for certain people, for example if you're allergic to it. Or perhaps if it gives you heart burn, then we can say its bad for you.
Whether its good or bad depends on each individual person.

It is good for: Your health to eat tomatoes.  
Tomatoes contain lycopene which is an antioxidant that fights free radicals (helps to prevent cancer).  When you cook tomatoes it significantly increases the amount of bioavailable lycopene.

Tomatoes: As many as you can eat but your skin may turn yellow from the carotenes in them. But eyes will not turn yellow.

See below: Assuming you are otherwise healthy (no renal disease or GERD), eating tomatoes shouldn't be a problem. However, you still need variety. 1) Limit how many tomatoes you buy from the store. If you grow your own, cut them up and freeze them - harder to get to. 2) Consciously think about other fruits/veggies and mix them with your tomatoes. You're craving for tomatoes will fade a little.

Not nightshade : Any food that is not in the nightshade family.  Tomatoes are in the nightshade family and as such, there is a chance of cross reactions to other foods in the nightshade family such as potatoes, eggplant and bell peppers.

Use them as: often as you wish.....

They are delicious and are a bit acidic but are in my eat often section!

Tomatoes: Sure, you can get good nutrition out of eating tomatoes.  How you eat them depends on what nutrients you're most seeking. If you want more lycopene, cooked is better than raw.  Lycopene is an antioxidant linked with lower risk of cancer and heart attacks.
