Not usually: Thrush is a fungal infection and common cold is caused by a viruses. There is usually no link between the two. Only connection i can think of would be if you are taking antibiotics , ( which you should not be for a common cold)  it may cause thrush.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Candida is part of the normal flora of the mouth. Candidiasis is caused by overgrowth of the fungus, usually because antibiotics  kill off the normal bacteria.

Accepted Answer

Less than: Staph infections are much more common than candida following a viral pneumonia, but certainly they can occur.  Generally, overgrowth of candida that is local (thrush or vaginosis) can occur in any patient.  Systemic candidiasis or candidal pneumonia is seen, but usually only in the immune compromised or severely ill patient.

Yes: Oral candidiasis (thrush), or vaginosis is commonly seen in people treated with antibiotics.  Both usually resolve with local treatment.  Systemic candidiasis does occur in patients recovering from severe sepsis, but is not "common" outside the ICU except in the immune compromised.

Possibly...Yes: The irritation to the oral cavity and possible extension of thrush/candidiasis to the back of the throat could be enough to cause coughing.  Thrush is easily treated, so you should see someone to have the problem treated and see if it makes the coughing resolve.  That being said, coughing can be caused by a very wide range of issues: infection, medication, allergies, and much more. Get it checked.

No: Candida sp. The causative organisms in thrush are normal oral flora.  Thrush occurs when the normal balance is disturbed by taking antibiotics and allowing yeast overgrowth or by defects in the normal host immunity such as in aids patient.  The disease is not contageous between people.

Antifungals: Antifungal topical treatment such as nystatin(mycostatin) liquid suspension swish and swallow or Clotrimazole troches dissolve in mouth are the initial treatment.  If this fails oral systemic treatment with fluconazole(diflucan) 100-200mg./day will usually be curative.  Disease in aids patients can be more refractory.

Oral Thrush: Although oral thrush can affect anyone, it's more likely to occur in babies and in people who wear dentures, use inhaled corticosteroids or have compromised immune systems. Oral thrush is a minor problem if you're healthy, but if you have a weakened immune system, symptoms of oral thrush may be more severe and difficult to control.

Yes: Fungus infection is contagious.Recurrent candidiasis is suspicious of HIV . Get her tested to be safe.

Often worse: The "headquarters" of yeast, usually candida albicans, is in the bowel. Vaginal treatment is inadequate. You need to see a physician who is familiar with the diagnosis of "yeast syndrome". Yeast in the bowel feeds on sugar so there is a strong association with diet. Sometimes fermentation in the bowel gives rise to "growling and bubbling" that is even audible.
