is it safe to use a hair removal cream on my stomach due to black hairs after getting a navel piercing ?

Accepted Answer

Use caution: Protect piercing area with petroleum jelly or similar substance that depilatory can't penetrate. Use caution when applying depilatory around this area. If piercing does get depilatory in it, flush with plenty of water & watch for signs of inflammation/infxn: redness, swelling, heat, pus. Can use aloe vera gel &/or antibiotic ointment. See doc if infxn occurs.

Folliculitis tx: It's helpful if shaving is done 3-4 days before laser hair removal.  If pustules appear, acne medications may be helpful, such as a benzoyl peroxide wash.  There should not be a lot of scrubbing as it may irritate hair follicles further.  All benzoyl peroxide must be washed off the skin completely.  There are also acne lotions that your doctor can prescribe to help.

It is safe: This cream will not be absorbed and will have no effect on your developing baby.  You may use it as directed without problems.

No this is not the: There is little written on Nair Side effects beyond  allrgic  reaction and skin iritation which especially occurs in the genital region. It is recommended you do it in a small area to see if it irriates you. There are no direct  mental side  effects.

Irritation...: It seems you might have caused some chemical burn or a skin reaction(dermatitis). This is a very sensitive area and prone to infection. If you are definitely in pain my suggestion is to visit an urgent care center or your doctor as soon as possible for evaluation and immediate treatment. With prompt treatment usually most people recover quickly.

You will need surger: Any dipilatory cream will aid in the hair removal. However once the ponidal cyst is formed you will experience intermitant dpisodes of inflammation and infection. In my practice thus is best treated with surgical excision and advancement flap closure.

No: Probably a chemical dermatitis, try some Hydrocortisone cream.

Doubtful: However can cause a chemical burn of face and chin area

No: The skin in the pubic area is too delicate. If you use the normal hair remover cream or wax, it may cause serious irritation and pain increasing the risk of skin infection. There are specialized products for that area. Better yet, have it waxed by at a salon/spa. They can do a better job, have the right products, and can take care of any irritation that may develop.

What type of wound?: If the area is red, hot and swollen this may be hidradenitis, an infection or inflammation of the axillary seat glands. This may be a reaction to hair removal cream- so stop it and see a medical doctor asap.
