i get leg cramps really bad. i have done everything they say to take magnesium and potassium but not together. they wake me up hurting. suggestion?

Leg cramps: It may be time to see a neurologist, pmnr doctor, or pain specialists. Things to consider would include nerve irritation and/or a back problem. Your physicians may consider an EMG or a lumbar MRI based on your symptoms and physical exam.

can i take magnesium and potassium gluconate supplements together?

Accepted Answer

Maybe, but why?: It would be better for absorption of both supplements if they were taken separately, such as at different meals, which would still make them easily memorable, but would avoid any competition between them.

im on losartan potassium/hydrochlorothizide 100mg/25mg and atorvastatin 80mg, can i take magnesium citrate?

Accepted Answer

Yes, it could help: High blood pressure and elevated cholesterol can both be related to low levels of magnesium. There is no contraindication to taking magnesium with those medications and it is likely to help. Be careful to start with a low dose and work your way up. Too much at once can cause loose stools - otherwise you increase the amount until you get the effect you want.

?Restless leg syndro: This could be a sign of restless leg syndrome but it first requires evaluation to help determine the cause which could be due to electrolytes, hormones, nerve (central or peripheral), or other disease processes.

can i take magnesium oxide 250 mg with klor-con potassium 20meq?? i have hx of v-tach. magnesium level is normal but ive heard it can help with pvcs?

Magnesium: It can.  Although serum magnesium normal, it does not reflect tissue magnesium. I would also recommend magnesium glycinate. It has far better absorption

See your : Doctor about your concerns they may refer you for vascular testing.  You are rather young for this but it does happen. Better safe then sorry.

i drink about 24 oz. of coconut water for the potassium, as well as  a banana almost daily. i take magnesium/calcium supplements. what's left to try?

Low potassium : Are you taking diuretics? Such as lasix (furosemide). If not and your potassium is still low then you need to be evaluated by a Nephrologist

No: Mg wasting may occur ALONG WITH Potasssium wasting but the two are not related unless KIDNEY damage occurs .....

Probably ok ...: They are few if any studies evaluating whether specific herbs/supplements can be taken together. A rule of thumb: a large dose of anything should be taken at a separate time as it may compete for another's absorption. There are reports of supplements interfering with benzodiazepine withdrawal, but occasional use shouldn't be a factor. Careful with those, though! They're addicting!

Yes: While there are many forms of magnesium, I checked for drug-drug interactions using magnesium oxide (http://www.drugs.com/interactions-check.php?drug_list=1516-0,1800-1156). You can do the same w/whichever form you're taking. Better yet, ask prescribing physician &amp; dispensing pharmacist. In other words, always tell your doctors everything you take, both prescription &amp; over-the-counter.
