It was prescribed: By a doctor so it should be discontinued a per your doctors directions. I will say that I have never encountered withdrawal from Buspar (buspirone) and I have been prescribing it frequently since the medication came out. It is my go to medication for generalized anxiety. Your biggest risk of stopping suddenly would be stressing the nerve transmitters associated with it, perhaps making the risk of relapse more likely, but I am not aware of any study that has addressed that issue. Discuss it first with your physician and best of luck to you.

At least 24 hours: The half life of Buspar (buspirone) and it's active metabolite is 3 and 6 hours respectively. This means that very little will be present 24 hours after stopping it. There is a possible interaction between Buspar (buspirone) and viladozone so it's wise to wait at least 24 hours after stopping Buspar (buspirone) before starting Viladozone.

as stated previously. i have taken 2.5mg buspar for 2 days, then increased to 5mg for 3 days. i would like to stop this medication. do i need to ween off or can i just stop "cold turkey" its only been 5 days on it?

: Your prescribing physician who knows your past and current status is best to advise &amp; supervise you. I vote for a somewhat slow taper off buspar over a week or so.

Cold turkey??: You haven&#x27;t listed all your medications, but suddenly stopping the xanax (alprazolam) could risk seizures for sure.  You sound like you may be in withdrawal, and i suggest a taper rather than &quot;cold turkey.&quot;  Norco can cause a withdrawal syndrome also.  For your own health, please work with your doctor on this rather than doing what you&#x27;re doing.

Buspar/clearance: Under ordinary circumstances, the Buspirone should clear in 12-24 hrs, although traces could be detected in urine (if we could test). I don't believe there would be any interference if you are or not on Zofran (ondansetron).

Can be side effects: Buspar (buspirone) can cause GI upset, and this may also wear off in a few days.  It can be helpful for anxiety, and usually requires at least 7-10 days of consistent dosing to show effect.  Please discuss this with your own doctor, who knows your case and why s/he prescribed this medicine for you.  S/he will want to know how you're doing so that s/he can adjust doses as needed.

Anger/hostility: Buspar (buspirone) can take 3-6 weeks before full anti-anxiety effects appear.  The most common side effects are dizziness, drowsiness & headache.  Agitation & hostility can happen more infrequently, and some people can get an increase of anxiety. Could your life situation be arousing anger too? Please work with your prescribing physician on this, so you can get the best results. S/he would want to know.

Check w your doc: Pharmacologically speaking, a 5 mg dose of Buspar (buspirone) is very low, and not likely to cause any sort of withdrawal syndrome from sudden stopping, but you were place on this drug for a reason. Best advice is to discuss this with your doc to determine if you need to change meds or stop this drug.
