Miscarriage ?: There can be retained parts of the pregnancy that can be passed later as you imply.  Sometimes this can occur after the bleeding from the miscarriage has been over for some time.  If there was blood with the tissue and it continues it might be an indication of the need for a D &amp; C to make sure all the pregnancy parts are out of the uterus.

Please see your OBGY: See your obgyn u need an exam and ultrasound u may or may not be trying to misc. An ultraosudn at 8 weeks should show a fetus with a ht beat, u could also have a sub chorionic hematoma  your OB will be able to tell with an ultrasound.

Real Pregnancy: An ectopic pregnancy is a pregnancy outside the uterus.  It is usually in the fallopian tube but can also be in other places.  Ectopic pregnancies are real pregnancies but they won't survive outside the uterus.   That is what nonviable means.  Since the pregnancy can't survive, treatment is focused on preventing problems for mom.  The ectopic pregnancy can be removed surgically or with medication.
