Yes: The most common retinal detachment caused by pulling of the vitreous on the retina is nicely treated either by vitreous traction removal or an encircling band around the retina in roughly 85% of the cases if dealt with before the area of central vision is threatened by the detachment. In detachments from other causes, the prognosis has to be offered by the retinal consultant.

Depends: There is good surgery for detachment  if the detachment occurred and is detected quickly within 1-4 days or so, it can usually be reversed.  If the macula (area of sharp central vision) is detached then good vision i s less likely   if the detachment has been there for more than a week or so, then the chance of best result is lessened, .

Yes: This depends on the reasons for the detachment.  For example healthy people with traumatic detachment will likely heal back to normal.   Long time diabetics or those with hypertension might be more likely to detach again and have less than 100% vision.

Unlikely: Current medical knowledge cannot improve upon this situation .  The optic nerves in your eyes perhaps are fine and work is being done on photoelectric devices to give a little vision in this situation.  Stem cells may help also in the future.  Stay tuned.

Peripheral vision: A patient with a detached retina will be aware of a gradual loss of peripheral vision in one eye, often described as a "curtain" coming across the edges of the visual field. This is an urgent problem which should be checked asap, and usually repaired in a short time frame. Fortunately, most retinal detachments can be successfully reattached by a vitreo-retinal surgeon, often with return of vision.

Serious!: Sudden vision loss can have many causes, including but not limited to retinal detachment.  Until proven otherwise, sudden vision loss is very serious, and should be evaluated urgently.  In some cases, usually in older individuals, there is also the risk of also loosing vision in the fellow eye, making this symptom all the more urgent with increasing age.

Retinal detachment: Retinal detachment is a medical emergency . Vision can return if surgery is done  within hours to days of the onset .Also depends on which area detached. Sometimes healing can take months

Maybe: If the macula was involved, the prognosis is guarded.  Since the macula is the most sensitive part of the central vision it is essential to treat retinal detachments quickly.
