I doubt it: Type 1 diabetes implys you can no longer make Insulin most often because a virus attacked the pancreas and the injury stopped production. Newly diagnosed type 1 pts may go thru months where they make some but this fades. Once the scaring is complete, you need  a source of Insulin (injections) to keep your blood sugar in line.Research may help for later but for now its permanent.

There was report of cure of dibetes in mice from aurora colorado .

Avoid illness: There is probably a genetic predisposition to dm1 that is like problem waiting to happen.If a kid has a  viral infection, then develops antibodies that think his/her Insulin producing cells are related to the virus, then his/her immune system begins killing those cells &dm1 will result.The idea of a vaccine for the virus has been looked into but none are available at present. Research may fix this.

Whether you give yourself injections or have an Insulin pump, there is no other treatment.  But millions of people, type 1 and type 2, do so every day and lead normal lives. I do!

Insulin: All type 1 diabetics require Insulin and can not survive with out it.  It can be given through injections multiple times daily or an Insulin pump which infuses Insulin throughout the day/night and patients can give a bolus of Insulin for meals based on blood sugar and the carbs they eat.  Also glucose sensors can help alert patients if bs is trending high or low before it goes to high or drops low.

No: Not really because what is wrong with diabetes is that the pancreas has no more cells that produce Insulin so even if you can stop the production of cells that will fight against the pancreas we do not know how to make new healthy cells that will make Insulin again.

Immunomodulation: Type 1 diabetes is thought to occur in genetically-susceptible patients whose immune system attacks their own pancreatic cells following some environmental factor that triggers their immune system. Insulin was thought to help delay or slow the progression of this process by modulating the immune system. However, so far, Insulin does not seem to do this in large clinical trials.
