Yes: If your are nearsighted (myopic), have astigmatism, or have different prescriptions for your two eye you will need a prescription from your eye doctor.

Pharmacy: I assume that you have good distance vision and need glasses for reading and near work.  Most pharmacies, and other retail outlets have racks of glasses that you can try before buying until you get the proper magnification for reading.  These are inexpensive.  Dollar stores have them for 1$ but they are a bit rickety.  If you know your power need you can order them off the internet.

No: Your vision may be blurry and you may experience eye-strain or headaches but it cannot change your prescription.

Yes: Most contact lens prescriptions are available in colored contact lenses.

Yes: Your vision will improve, get worse, or remain the same.  Please forgive me, no disrespect is intended. These things are unpredictable. You'll be doing yourself a favor if you do wear your prescription rx's, and i hope that you will at least wear them when you are driving a motor vehicle. Many men will like the serious, thoughtful look that glasses give you; or you have a contact lens option.

Presbyopia: As you age, your accommodation decreases till the point when your reading and intermediate distance vision becomes difficult(presbyopia). Since you are nearsighted, by taking off your glasses, you are able to see more comfortably near to you without the strain that you would feel with your glasses on. This is when the option of progressive add lenses may be beneficial. Presbyopia does progress.

Accepted Answer

Yes: There are sites through which you can order eyeglasses, some at amazingly low prices.  You will need to supply the prescription + a term called the pd which is the distance between your eyes so the eyeglasses can be optically centered.  Most ophthalmologists are happy to supply this information since they are interesting in eye disease and surgery.  Optoms may resist this since eyeglasses= income.

Unclear: You will need a proper prescription (best from an ophthalmologist), to order glasses on line.  An optometrist is unlikely to  to check them after you obtain them although ophthalmologists are more generous in this respect since they are not threatened by online prescriptive glasses.

i have a problem with and without my prescription glasses. things get blurry and i have to blink a couple of times to get my focus back. i had specs for 2 years and i upgraded again 2 weeks ago. internet says i might need surgery. how to fix this?

See eye doc.: Getting used to new glasses can take a week or two. But sometimes the glasses were not properly made or fitted. Go back to the eye doctor that gave you these new glasses and tell him/her that the glasses are still not working out for you. Adjustments may need to be made.
