If you are having symptoms, then a specialist can look inside and let you know if any one of your hemorrhoids is significant  enough to treat and what measure best to treat it.

Grade 1: Internal hemorrhoids do not hurt! this is probably an anal fissure due to hard stool or following a bout of diarrhea. See a colon and rectal surgeon for confirmation and treatment.

Fiber.  Don't strain: Constipation, hard stools and straining/pushing too hard when you have a bowel movement can aggravate hemorrhoids.  Make sure you have regular bowel movements, and have enough fiber and fluid in your diet.

Low Fiber Diet: Hemorrhoids form because of an increase in the pressure inside your intestines that comes about because of low fiber in your diet.  You need to take a fiber supplement every day for the rest of your life, or increase the fiber in your diet dramatically to get them to go away.  Hope this helps.

If a hemorrhoid becomes firm, enlarged, and tender, it may have thrombosed (clotted).  This is treated w/ pain medication and time.  Anal lump present all the time requires medical attention to assure that it isn't something else.  See fp, gi, or surgeon!  good luck!

Life: Once you have a hermmorrhoid it stays there unless you remove it or get rid of it by banding. It is like a varicose vein in the legs. It may get larger or smaller but stay tgere.
