Synthroid (thyroxine): You should wait about an hour after you take your synthroid (thyroxine) or it won't be properly absorbed. You may be better off taking it at bed-time - about an hour after a snack.

Yes, however...: Eating large amounts of cruciferous vegetables & soy can suppress thyroid function, but it is not clear how much and moderate consumption, esp. If these are cooked, should not have much of an effect. If you eat very large amounts of these then monitor levels of thyroid hormone to see if you need to take more thyroxine. i asked this before but can eating a lot of beans affect my synthroid absorption. i eat them almost daily with lunch and dinner as i dont eat much meat many hours after i take my synthroid. i keep being told conflicting information if this is true ?

Synthroid: I was surprised to learn that certain foods as well as minerals like iron&amp;calcium can bind to thyroid hormones like synthroid &amp;inhibit absorption. The best way to avoid this is to take synthroid the first thing in the morning when your stomach is empty and wait until later in the day to eat foods or supplements that can interfere with synthroid  absorption. Your pharmacist can give you more  info.

ive been taking synthroid for hypothyroid since age 7. is it true soy products interfere with synthroid? id like to become vegan, if possible, and eat tofu and tempeh. would it be safe for me to eat tofu and tempeh?

: You should be periodically monitoring your TSH level to ensure that your hypothyroidism is under control. If tofu affects it, it should show up in TSH levels. Note that vegans are at risk of vitamin B12 and vitamin D deficiency and if you become vegan, take relevant supplements.
