No: HPV is associated with most but not all cases of cervical intraepithelial lesions. That is why Pap smear remains the gold standard for cervical cancer screening. The reverse is also true: not every HPV infection is associated with dysplasia

Depends: Per the American Society of Cytology and Colposcopy, a "mildly abnormal" Pap smear would be ASCUS (atypical cells) or LSIL (low grade abnormal cells). Also per ASCCP guidelines and ACOG (the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology) - women under age 21 should NOT be having Pap smears. Between age 21-24, low grade (mild) abnormalities are just monitored closely - no colposcopy needed.

Vaginal bleeding ?'s: Heavy menstrual periods with "severe cramping and vomiting" may come from fibroids or early pregnancy outside the womb (ectopic). See your gyn physician for an exam , and ask about low dose oral bcp's which will alleviate your symptoms. If pregnancy is possible, get a serum HCG test to be certain.

Depends: Depends on the abnormality found, if the pap shows abnormal cells with high risk hpv types, then coloposcopy is indicated. If the pap shows anything more abnormal such as low grade or high grade dysplasia, then colposcopy is performed. Generally, colposcopy is performed at the most every 6 months depending on the level of dysplasia.

Yes: An abnormal pap smear is not a contraindication for pregnancy.  You should continue to have testing on a regular basis and follow the advice of your doctor.

More Info needed: Abnormal pap smears are caused by hpv.  What exactly did they call your 'abnormality'? How do you know you do not have hpv since 96% of american adults do have it?

It depends.: A pap smear is a test used to screen for cervical cancer, where a doc takes a sample of cells from the cervix. There is a wide range of abnormal results. Some pap tests come back showing you have a virus called hpv which is extremely common in sexually active women. Pap smears can also show that the cells of the cervix themselves are abnormal, showing pre-cancerous or cancerous cells.
