Viral outbreak: It could be a viral outbreak such as herpes. Possibly a reaction to a new food, usually citrus. Possibly a severe vitamin deficiency, usually the b complex. .

Mouth ulcers: Mouth ulcers can be caused and/or triggered by different things, including infections, autoimmune diseases, allergic reactions, nutritional deficiencies, and stress. The most common kinds are canker sores (aphthous stomatitis), the cause of which is not known, and cold sores caused by type 1 herpes simplex  virus. You should be evaluated by your doctor and treated accordingly.

Yes: Listerine contains alcohol and other chemical ingredients that can cause a reaction in the mouth that can lead to mouth ulcers.  One of the ingredients, methyl salicylate, has been shown to cause allergic reactions and contact dermatitis.  You should consider stopping the listerine to see if it helps.

Sometimes the immune system with just cause a random ulcer to appear.

Probably virus: Most oral ulcers are either apthous ulcers (canker sores) or herpetic ulcers.  Both are viral and cannot be eliminated from your body.  A fever, exposure to sun, and stress, among other things, can stimulate these viruses to produce ulcers.  Your dentist can prescribe meds that may reduce the duration and severity of the ulcers, and, very importantly, rule out anything more serious.

Aphthous ulcers?: Aphthous ulcers (whitish, shallow ulders with red rims) are quite common during early/late adulthood. They can be quite painful. The exact cause is not known, but it is believed that an autoimmune process and/or viral infections are causing such. Treatment is usually controlling the symptoms, as they will resolve.
Also, possible herpes stomatitis, thus consult doc if u r concerned. Good luck.

Mouth Ulcers: Mouth ulcers can be caused by minor trauma to the oral cavity. Other causes include: stress & anxiety, hormonal changes, family history, foods like chocolate, coffee, peanuts, almonds, strawberries, cheese, tomatoes, wheat flour, stopping smoking, medical conditions like crohn's, coeliac disease, iron deficiency, reactive arthritis, B12 deficiency.

i regularly get mouth ulcers and already have aroind three of them. what could be the reason? syphilis? cancer or just normal ulcers? scared!

Accepted Answer

Aphthous ulcers: The painful white ones in the mouth rather than on the lips are usually harmless. I trust you do not have lupus, Behcet's, or a low neutrophil count and are otherwise well. These are not cancer and are not syphilis.
