No.: It is not advisable to use triamcinolone (a steroid cream) on the face.  Steroids are designed to be used as temporary anti-inflammatory agents on rashes.  They work by suppressing the immune system. Over a period of time, the immune system adjusts and needs stronger steroids to obtain the same result. In addition, they destroy collagen in the skin which ages skin and they can cause steroid acne.

THEY SURE WILL GO AWAY IF YOU STOP USING THE CREAM BUT ASK YOUR DOCTOR IF YOU CAN CHANGE THE CREAM TO ANOTHER VEHICLE, LIKE A LOTION, PERHAPS . . .

Very bad idea: It will make the redness and swelling go away by stopping the neutrophils from fighting the bacteria that cause acne. It will promote the same skin changes that trigger acne at puberty. Using this stuff on your face over time is likely to scar you by itself. Please get with a competent physician instead of experimenting with prescription-strength medications.

No: Allergy to triamcinolone acetonide is rare so there's probably another explanation.  Also this drug may not  be very effective here if hives (Urticaria) is truly what you have.  Rashes are very difficult to describe.  Can you send a photo?  There are very good over the counter anthistamines that can help hives.

Topical steroids: If you have them at home, they can be used sparingly, in very small amounts rubbed in thoroughly.  I prefer using pramoxine (an ingredient in Aveeno (oatmeal) itch cream or Caladryl Clear) for itching.
