can drinking too much water give you a headache? i always drink water but for the past week ive been drinking a gallon a day. could this be the cause of my headache that wont go away? is it safe to do so?

Dilution : 1/2 gallon daily is recommended intake for water. You don’t say why you consume a gallon. Are you working outdoors and sweating it out? Then, a gallon may be the correct amount! But if you are just thirsty, it might signal a medical problem (like diabetes) that should be evaluated by a doctor. Excess water intake can drop your sodium over time and change the chemical  balance in your blood.

Yes.: There is a syndrome known as water intoxification. Athletes who only drink water and no electrolyte replacement after viderous exercise can develop this. Too much water intake dilutes your total body sodium and acts as very low body sodium. Low sodium can swell the brain, cause headaches, seizures, brainstem damage, and even death.

Too much water: Unless you are dehydrated, drinking 3 liters of water in 2 hours is too much, and can cause headaches. Water intoxication can be fatal.

Yes.: Drinking too much water can cause headache, as well  as a serious condition called "water intoxication."  if you drink much more plain water than you lose through sweat, urination and evaporation of exhaled air, your blood can become so dilute (hypotonic) that water moves into your cells, causing them to swell.  Swelling of brain cells specifically can cause seizure coma, even death.

Yes.: While there many causes of headaches, one of the most common is being somewhat dehydrated. A good indicator of your hydration status is your urine. Aim to have completely clear, odorless urine. If it is dark yellow and/or smells strong, you need to drink more. Hope you feel better.

"Brain Freeze"?: Brain freeze from ingesting ice cold water &amp; foods is common &amp; multifactorial, as are headaches. Such pain can originate from the skin, fat, muscle, blood vessels or within the cranium from great venous sinuses, their tributaries, the dura &amp; its arteries, the falx cerebri, &amp; large arteries at base of the brain (all of which have pain fibers). Could try room temperature water &amp; assess response.

Head aches: Not sure if the excess water intake caused you head ache or maybe something you stopped eating/drinking. For example, sometime, when people diet and cut out soda with caffeine, they get head aches.  Caffeine may not only cause headaches, but can also be a treatment for them etc.  So play detective and slowly decrease food groups as opposed to stopping them abruptly. See doc if the HA continues.

my wife tested positive for covid on saturday. her health was ok till this morning and she slept all day. she refuses to eat and only drinks water. she complains about a headache and dizziness. can i give her any pain tablets. her breathing is ok. ?

Yes: Rest, hydration, acetaminophen, decongestant, cough med &amp; nasal saline irrigation may help mild symptoms. Get emergency care for difficulty breathing, blue lips or face, significant &amp; persistent chest pain or new-onset of confusion.

is it normal to get panic to that extent where you go for frequent urination and drink excessive water and where u feel headache and nauseous and cry before doing something or is it extreme and or is that an anxiety or panic attack?

POSSIBLY: I don't know about "normal" but panic and anxiety is very much experienced physically. I would try breathing exercises and meditation and reduce caffeine and have a health y lifestyle. If these basic behavioral approaches do not work then see a therapist or psychiatrist
