i've read gerd/heartburn is often caused by low stomach acid and not too much. is this true or more of a holistic/natural type point of view?

Accepted Answer

Not true: GERD is caused by contents in the stomach coming up through the esophagus, which in turn has a poorly understood cause. We think it is probably due to too many random openings of the valve. Certain medications can also cause the valve to open, as can stress, obesity, &amp; problems with the stomach emptying to name a few. Hope this helps!

currently taking 40mg omeprazole 4 gerd, recently, have excessive acid (ea) which results in severe heartburn even with ppi. what can causes for ea b?

Timing : How are you taking the omeprazole? It should be taken on an empty stomach with nothing to eat or drink for at least 30 minutes after. If you aren't taking it this way that can reduce to the effectiveness. Otherwise, you may need to see your doctor or a gastroenterologist.

GERD does: This is a common symptom of GERD along with acidic regurgitations / burps. You need to take an antacid regularly and this may be needed for the long term. Ask your doctor how to regulate this treatment to suit your needs.

You've nailed it..: Obstructive sleep apnea (osa) and gerd can be contributing factors to the problem. A dry mouth, together with caustic stomach acid, can wreak havoc to the teeth. Oral hygiene excellent? Need to work closely with your team of doctors to help solve the problem(s). Phenomenal oral hygiene a must, possible topical Fluoride application. Have the pediatric dentist monitor the situation.

Medications, functional dyspepsia, GERD, peptic ulcer disease, and cancer.

have been diagnosed with gerd, the possible silent reflux kind, where acid comes all the way back up. not as much heartburn but more clearing and irritated throat. also have chronic sinus nasal and ear irritation. could the acid cause that?
